Faith & Community Group

What we are about:

Our Lady of Guadalupe Faith & Community Group offers a way for parishioners to form and live a life of Christian community, under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, through a Catholic charismatic experience. The following Bible verse captures what we are trying to experience:

"So then, we are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God...in Him you are also being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit."        Eph 2:19,22

This effort is fostered through:

- an awareness of the reality and presence of Jesus Christ as Lord of our life

- an openness to the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit helping us to increase in holiness in all areas of our life

- responding to God speaking through Scripture and the Church (especially through the Sacraments)

- gatherings with praise and worship, talks, children’s activities, small group sharing and prayer support

- participating together in shared meals, social and service gatherings and supporting each other in prayer and with physical needs

- deepening our personal prayer life

- fostering relationships as brothers and sisters in the Lord through commitment to the gatherings rather than just coming when it is convenient, and service to one another rather than self-centeredness (first recognizing that our family is our primary community but also seeing the need to serve others)

- experience support to persevere in our faith within a culture that tends to pull us away from God’s Kingdom

- responding to the Lord’s call to evangelization because we have personally experienced God’s goodness and want to share that with others (especially to our own children)

Topics of talks may include:

- Deepening your prayer life through the Holy Spirit

- Opening yourself to the help of the Holy Spirit in your relationships

- Being more open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit throughout your day

- Allowing the Holy Spirit to help you understand and follow the Holy Scriptures

- Opening yourself to the gifts of the Holy Spirit

- How to grow in the fruits of the Spirit

- Growing in basic Christian maturity

- Building a Catholic Christian family life/culture

- To serve as Jesus served

The group gathers two Saturday a month, during the school year, in Highberger Hall in the San Juan Diego building, from 6:15pm-9pm. The evening includes a pot-luck meal, praise and worship, talks, children's activities, small group sharing and prayer support. (Participants bring a main dish or side dish for the potluck - drinks and deserts are provided.)

We also encourage members to participate in the Spiritual Companian program (go to link above for more information). This promotes deeper faith sharing and support through prayer and in practical ways.

All parishioners of all states in life (married, singles, empty nesters, etc,) and all ages are invited to come and be part of the group. Families are encouraged to attend together. Come and see if you want to join us as we grow and support one another in our faith within a culture that tends to pull us away from His Kingdom of love.
